Cahoots Theatre Company and David Sloan in association with Park Theatre present the World Premiere of

TWILIGHT SONG

By Kevin Elyot

Directed by Anthony Banks

A world premiere from the writer of the classic comedy My Night with Reg.

In their sitting room in leafy north London, Isabella and Basil are getting ready to take Uncle Charles out to dinner. It’s the summer of 1967, and the family’s secrets are starting to crack as the world around them is undergoing a revolution.

Tracing their hidden liaisons over half a century to the present day, Kevin Elyot’s evocative final play conjures a heartbreakingly funny tale of fathers and sons, desire and regret, love and loss, and lives half lived.

Elyot was an acclaimed writer for stage and screen, winning Laurence Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for My Night with Reg. His other plays include the Olivier nominated Mouth to Mouth (Royal Court) and The Day I Stood Still (National Theatre). On screen his work includes Christopher and His Kind (BBC), Clapham Junction (Channel 4) and many episodes of Poirot and Marple (ITV).

‘Funny and satisfying. Its twists keep playing in your head long after it's over.’ Dominic Maxwell, The Times

'It has that same mischievous humour as My Night with Reg and a potent mix of sorrow and anger about wasted lives. A bittersweet mix of wit and compassion.' Sarah Hemming, Financial Times

‘The acting is on the money. Elyot writes well about the dark secrets of family life. A salutary reminder that, however relaxed the law, many people still lead lives of quiet, sexual desperation.’ Michael Billington, Guardian

'The first scene is a gem of queasy comic suggestiveness. Bryony Hannah radiates just the right degree of well-bred frustration and yearning.' Paul Taylor, Independent

‘Funny and keeps you guessing. Fans of Elyot should be pleased he left this one last gift.’  Emily Jupp, WhatsOnStage.com
